Brief Bio

Fiona completed her Bachelor of Arts in 1993 and her LLB degree at the erstwhile University of Natal, Durban. She completed her LLM in Mercantile Law in 2017 at the University of Free State. She is also currently a PhD candidate in at the University of the Witwatersrand and is on the practising roll of legal practitioners in South Africa.


Fiona completed her Articles of Clerkship in Durban and was admitted as an Attorney in 1998. She worked in the London Square Mile in the field of Investment Management from 1998 to 2004.


She began her legal academic career at the Applied Law department of the Durban University of Technology in 2005. She started her career at the IIE Varsity College as a part-time lecturer in 2006. She began managing the Law programme nationally from 2007 and was appointed as the Head of School: Law at the IIE Varsity College in 2015. She is currently employed as the Dean: IIE Varsity College and IIE MSA School of Law.


Fiona has presented at both national and international law conferences in the field of Insolvency Law, Business Rescue and Company Law and has a keen interest in these areas. She is also currently supervising final year IIE LLB students.


She established the IIE Varsity College Community Law Clinic in 2022 and acted as the Director of the Law Clinic. 


She is a recent past President of the Society for Law Teachers of Southern Africa and also served on the Executive as Vice-President of the Society.


Areas of teaching and research include Legal Education, Social Justice and Insolvency Law with a particular interest in business rescue.
